Fm transmitters...eh August 28, 2010 P. Pitner I expected better sound quality from this, as it's a product made under the Zune name. The features are wonderful, USB port and auxiliary input are great features. I guess only so much sound quality can be transmitted with only so much power (regulations and whatnot). If your vehicle has an auxiliary input, buy a car to usb converter and a male-to-male 3.5mm jack. It'll be the same thing for a lower cost and the sound will be much better than any fm transmitter will ever be.
But if you don't care for pristine sound quality or your vehicle doesn't have auxiliary input, like mine, buy a cheaper fm transmitter unless you think the extra couple features are worth the cost.
Zune products receive HD Radio, but cannot transmit it, unfortunately. Technology just isn't to that point yet.
One observation not noted in other reviews August 26, 2010 Daniel K. Fritz (Bloomingdale, IL USA) Most of the reviews already posted are typical of my experience using the radio transmitter feature of this product. Probably due to FCC regulations, the transmitter power is low and prone to interference. Living in the Chicago metropolitan area there is almost always a little background noise, kind of like listening to a casette tape back in the 80s. One thing I have discovered that I did not see on another review is that the transmitter uses the wire between the Zune player and the cigarette lighter for its transmission antenna. When I first started using the device I had the plug and wire inside the center console of my car and the results were terrible. Fully extending the wire and stretching it out helps enormously. I suspect this has something to do with the variation between reviews. Fully extending the wire will result in a usably clear signal. It is not as good as having an "Aux In" but it is certainly listenable.
The device is otherwise well made and works as advertized. Channel selection by "seek" or manual setting is easy and intuitive.
Zune HD FM Broadcaster August 9, 2010 Samuel Aldrich (Yokota AB, JP) It was a little challenging to really find a radio station what would work well but once I did it works alright. The sound quality is very poor but I didn't expect anything astounding coming from FM.
Not Happy with it July 22, 2010 Natasha Williamson 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this product because it said that I could listen to my music from my Player in my car and that's not what it does, its just for the radio and satellite radio. Well, I already have radio, I wanted to listen to my downloaded music. It was a waste and I haven't used it nor have I been able to use my Zune in my car!! I wasted my money, wish I could get a refund!!
Works great! July 14, 2010 Ms. Shannon (Tucson, AZ USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I must admit that I was hesitant to purchase this item after reading the negative reviews. But since Amazon.com sells it for cheaper than ANYONE, and returns are easy, I decided to give it a try.
I set it up this morning. I began w/ the radio off, as other reviews suggested. I used the seek function and the 1st 2 FM stations it found were full of static and very low. Bad reception. I tried the seek function one more time and it landed on the same FM station I use for my XM Satellite Radio. And it worked great on that station! It's crystal clear and I don't have to jack up the volume.
I'm super happy that I can listen to my eclectic music collection w/o changing CDs!
