4 out of 5 stars Zune   August 27, 2010

Great product and I don't have to deal with the "other guys" who make mp3 players.

5 out of 5 stars way better than a conformist ipod   August 25, 2010

ok, i've had 4 of these ( 3 got stolen). the software is way simpler than an ipod. all of the problems the ppl that gave this device 1 star, i've had with an ipod. all of my friends used to borrow my current 1 b4 i graduated, even if they had their ipod, just because it is easier to use. amazing device, better software. i will b buying more

3 out of 5 stars Not best as a "workout" music player   August 11, 2010
M. Orona (Austin)
I have owned my 4g Zune for just over a year now, and can't add much more than all of the other reviews, but want to give at least one warning: mine broke after a year of using it while jogging.

The back of the player is aluminum, which sounds like a good idea at first for durability. But as an avid runner in the Texas heat, the aluminum started dissolving from exposure to the perspiration of my body. I was using the Griffin Streamline Armband for Zune 4/8GB (Black) armband that I thought was protecting my Zune. As it turns out, it was encasing it in a tomb of moisture that eventually ate away at the metal backing due to the corrosive moisture that is a result of perspiration. So even though this may sound like an armband problem, it is important to note that my iPod Shuffle has no such issues, and after 5 years of use, is still solid.

So if you use the Zune for workingout, I HIGHLY recommend that you make sure you do NOT use a fully enclosed case that doesn't allow the body of the player to breathe. The thin backing just can't handle the elements.

5 out of 5 stars Zune review   August 7, 2010

The player is great - but I hate the proprietary software and cord hassle. I didn't want to have to give a credit card # to the Zune folks.

1 out of 5 stars worst investment of my life.   August 6, 2010

To start off, I have never experienced any device with such pathetic battery life. Within 4 to 5 hours at most, the battery runs clear dead even with the volume turned down to level 8, out of 20. I could not reconnect the Zune to the computer for synchronizing without resetting it every time. Seems like something small, but honestly, why does a player need to reboot before any connection with a computer? And no, this was not due to computer malfunction. Plus, there wasn't even an equalizer. How can an internationally spread company such as Microsoft with millions upon millions of dollars in Research & Development design a music player without the simple, but very necessary feature of changing the sound quality to someone's own liking? Windows Media Player has it, they should be able to put it on something smaller than a desktop; Absolutely pathetic. There is also horrible reception for the radio. Stations that will come in clear on any radio in a car or house were full of star noise at best when on the Zune tuner. Beyond this, whenever an update for the programming of the Zune came in, it would take well over an hour to download the software onto the Zune itself, when the software was maybe 10-20 MB. When it "installed" the software, I had to wait an hour and a half before it changed to saying it was installing a second time, this time with no status bar. I had to shut the computer down to gain control back. As for anything positive, the display had a very high quality. That was the only thing which I can think of. I am WARNING you: do NOT buy a Zune.
