Product Description
Belkin Mobile Cassette Adapter Part F8V366 - The Mobile Cassette Adapter from Belkin easily connects your portable MP3, CD, cassette player, PC, or laptop to your car stereo, through your car's in-dash cassette player. It provides an easy way to transfer quality sound from any portable audio equipment to your car stereo while on the road, on the beach, camping, or anywhere you would use a portable tape player. Designed for outstanding audio performance and use on the road, the Adapter reduces noise by automatically maintaining the correct tension within the cassette deck as you drive.

2 out of 5 stars Poor sound quality   October 26, 2008

This product worked for my setup, but the sound quality was poor. Distortion started in with the volume halfway up. I have another brand and the distortion does not start until the volume is most of the way up. This is not the model to get.

I had a very similar experience as the other reviewer. This adapter work fine for a month, but suddenly my car's cassette deck started randomly rejecting it. This occurs frequently enough that the adapter is basically useless. I'm very unimpressed with this thing and am now inclined to avoid anything from Belkin.

1 out of 5 stars Grinding Sound Unacceptable   February 19, 2007

I just bought one of these. It amazed me that the sound quality was so good yet this product is totally unusable.

As soon as it is inserted it begins to make a grinding sound. I am not even sure why that wheel is needed to engage with the deck motor. All that really should be needed is the head to match the deck head.

It is not only annoying and loud, but I would worry it might eventually damage the deck.

This is going back and I hope I can find something better.

I also bought this product to accompany a Dell MP3 player. It fits fine in my car's tape deck, however, the tape makes a constant grinding noise while played. To drown out this noise, I would have to have the volume up very high on both the car stereo and the MP3 player. It is disappointing becuse I have yet to find a solution to the noise of the tape- cleaning the deck, cleaning the tape component... nothing seemed to work. I then bought Belkin's FM Tunecat II, also a large disappointment. Between the two choices, I would go with the tape deck, but beware, it isn't great.

Having recently purchased a Dell Pocket DJ, I needed a method of listening to it in the car. Dell offered me this Belkin Cassette Adapter, which was a lower priced alternative to the Dell-brand Cassette Adapter. I am very disappointed with this piece.

The sound is, admittedly, quite good. Virtually no interference, clean and clear, your music will play as if you're listening to it straight off of a CD. There is no static of any sort. The tape itself makes a grinding noise while inside the tape deck that is noticeable, particularly between songs. But the worst part of this adapter is its compatibility problem.

This is quite possibly the most incompatible cassette adapter I've ever seen. Virtually every cassette deck that I put this adapter into rejected the tape. At first, I thought it was my own player, as I am using the generic Ford radio that came with my explorer. However, I tested this product out in about 6 other cars, and the same thing happened. This tape seems to confuse some tape decks, and will be playing fine for quite a while, and will then suddenly stop and switch tape read modes (if your cassette player has such a feature). This results in an abrupt end to the song you're listening to, and unless you love the 'soothing and relaxing' sound of your cassette player switching play modes as it tries to read the tape, you'll be in for quite a bite of frustration. Sometimes, for whatever reason, certain players will reject this tape for long periods of time. Personally my player kept spitting the tape out for about 4 weeks before it decided to take it again.

The wire that connects to your MP3 Player, CD PLayer, or whatever it is you are using is quite flimsy. In fact, I am no longer using this product, simply because the wire broke. The connection somehow managed to bend out of place, causing tremendous interference during play. Eventually, the wire ripped right out of the connector, leaving the broken piece sticking out of my mp3 player. I can't say I was unhappy to be rid of the product, simply because in all the time I had it, I spent more time jamming the tape back into the player than I did listening to uninterrupted music.

If you are looking for an adapter to listen to your MP3 player, do yourself a favor and skip this product. Don't settle for an FM Transmitter either, since those are utter garbage. There is a sony tape adapter available on Amazon that is of much higher quality.
